ART IN THE PARK: SHUN SUDO “HANA-MI” 2026.3.7–3.29

On this occasion, painter SHUN SUDO presents the exhibition ART IN THE PARK: SHUN SUDO “HANA-MI” in collaboration with Ginza Sony Park. Since his first solo exhibition in New York in 2015, SHUN SUDO has consistently created vivid and pop-inspired works with the intention of offering viewers a sense of energy and positivity. Seeing visitors smile—or at times even shed tears—has become a source of strength for the artist, sustaining and deepening his practice. The works he has created have extended beyond individual viewers, giving rise to diverse forms of connection with artists, companies, and brands both in Japan and abroad.
Marking the tenth anniversary of his artistic career in 2025, SHUN SUDO felt a strong desire to hold an exhibition in Japan, the country of his birth, centered on the theme of flowers. When considering where such an exhibition would most authentically reflect his own sensibility, he chose Ginza Sony Park as his partner—a place through which he has continued to communicate his message through art. The core concept of Ginza Sony Park is to connect people with the city, and people with one another, through activity and openness. This philosophy closely aligns with one of the fundamental aspirations of SHUN SUDO’s artistic practice.
In March, as cherry blossoms come into full bloom across Japan, the season of hana-mi arrives—a time marked by emotional transitions such as graduations and new beginnings. Held in a park at the very heart of Ginza, this exhibition is a project that seeks to share the Japanese cultural tradition of flower viewing with the world, through the language of art.

What I depict are landscapes alive with flowers —
visions drawn from places I have encountered around the world,
and from the blossoms that happened to flourish in those fleeting moments.
Such moments, so easily overlooked, will never return.
By capturing the fragments etched in my memory,
I seek to transform them through painting into scenes that endure.

My relationship with Ginza Sony Park began even before its 2025 opening,
through a series of collaborative projects.
Each occasion deepened my sense of resonance with this place.
Here, activity and openness coexist,
creating a space where people connect with the city and with one another.
This ideal closely aligns with my own artistic aspirations.

For this exhibition, created in partnership with Ginza Sony Park,
I recognize a significant and meaningful challenge.

In this park in Ginza, where people from across the globe come together,
I have created a space adorned with flowers painted by my own hand.
Through this work, I aimed to convey the beauty of hanami—one of Japan’s most cherished
cultural traditions—in a manner that is true to my own perspective.

If the scenery found only here touches the hearts of those who visit Ginza,
nothing would bring me greater joy.
And if such an encounter offers even a small spark of strength to someone living through their day,
then as a painter, I could wish for nothing more.

SHUN SUDO

[ EXHIBITION HIGHLIGHTS ]

The artist’s signature icon, “Button Flower,” depicted with four small holes at the center of each bloom, embodies the wish “to connect hearts, just as a button fastens two pieces of fabric together.”
Since his first solo exhibition PAINT OVER in New York in 2015, SHUN SUDO has continued to paint this flower using vivid acrylic colors. Beloved by many, Button Flower has expanded its expressive reach through collaborations with global companies such as SONY and Porsche, the design of a charity T-shirt for 24-Hour Television (Nippon TV, 2023), and the worldwide release of the Button Flower Blossoms capsule collection in collaboration with the French luxury maison Christian Louboutin.
On the 3rd and 4th floors of the exhibition venue, more than 35 new oil paintings—created as part of SUDO’s ongoing exploration since 2024—will be presented, alongside sculptural works produced at the GrandPalaisRmn art workshops. In addition, on Basement Level 2, visitors can find venue-exclusive original merchandise, including new silkscreen prints, tote bags designed with floral artworks, and the advance release of a new BE@RBRICK collaboration. Furthermore, at the casual Western-style dining restaurant “1/2 (Nibun no Ichi)” on Basement Level 3, a special flower-themed collaboration menu will be available for a limited time during the exhibition period.
What is it about SHUN SUDO’s works that continues to captivate so many people, as well as leading global brands and corporations? We warmly invite you to experience the artworks firsthand and feel their resonance for yourself. Please enjoy HANA-MI, the exhibition by Ginza Sony Park and SHUN SUDO, to the fullest.

The collection, born from the empathy between the designer and the painter’s sensibilities, will go on sale simultaneously in Tokyo, Paris, London, New York, Los Angeles, and other countries from March 13.

THE COLLECTION “THE ALL-OVER BFB PRINT” :

At the heart of this creative collaboration is the modern and lively floral print created by Shun Sudo. Reinterpreting his signature Button Flower and the CL logo in vibrant pop art colors, this design gives to Christian Louboutinʼs most recognisable styles a fresh, contemporary and iconic touch, transcribing the sparkling creativity and modernism of the collaboration.

THE BUTTON FLOWER DETAIL :

Combination of the healing virtues of flowers and the metaphor of buttons being something that connects the world, the Button Flower created by Shun Sudo is a symbol of peace and one of the most recognisable emblems of his work. Adorn on iconic silhouettes in a red pop-art 3D detail, the flower echoes both Shunʼs character and Christian Louboutinʼs DNA. Embodying Christian Louboutin’s love for details, those Button flowers elements celebrate pop art and contemporary style, two main pillars of the capsule.psule.

THE ONE-OF-A-KIND EDITION :

The Maisonʼs iconic KATE 100mm pump and ADOLON High Top sneaker are revisited in a one-of-a-kind original edition, singly hand painted by artist Shun Sudo only available in a limited number of pieces in selected flagships. They embodied the accomplishment of a beautiful and highly creative fusion between contemporary art and high fashion, making the products of this collaboration unique and authentic.

Special Exhibition
“MOMENTARY”

We are pleased to announce that artist SHUN SUDO will hold a special exhibition “MOMENTARY” at Ryosokuin, a Zen temple in Gion, Kyoto. SHUN SUDO has been creating borderless and timeless works, such as the design of a charity T-shirts for this year’s “24-Hour Television – Love Saves the Earth – ” (Nihon Television) and the art wall at the skateboarding venue of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. This time he created dynamic art works by fusing his own identity as “Japan” and the long “history” of Kyoto and Ryosokuin. SHUN SUDO, currently traveling around the world and attracting a lot of media attention, was inspired by Ryosokuin’s beautiful garden and serenity of the time within, and began working on the Byobu-e (folding screen picture) and other artworks. The iconic motif “Button Flower,” which has a positive connotation of “connecting” people and the world, is boldly placed on the folding screen, docking the common motifs of “buttons,” which connect fabrics by fastening them, and “flowers,” which are a symbol of peace. We invite you to experience the scenery and atmosphere of Ryosokuin, as well as the “ETERNAL MOMENT,” a folding screen work boldly decorated with “button flowers” and other works that represent a new challenge for SHUN SUDO.

When I looked at the well-tended garden from the porch of Ryosokuin, I realized that this is the beauty of Japan and Japanese nature. Everything I see is fleeting and at the same time seems eternal. I have never paid attention to my nationality, Japanese, while I was painting until now. But this time, every time I faced the painting, the Japanese in me awakened and that glided my brush smoothly. I believe the scenery and history of Ryosokuin made me do so. Through this painting, I would like to express my gratitude to Ryosokuin, Kyoto, and Japan, the country that raised me.
