Ginza Sony Park
“ART IN THE PARK” by SHUN SUDO, 2020
In 2020, SHUN SUDO created a dynamic wall artwork on the basement level (B1) wall of Ginza Sony Park as it stood at the time. The concept of Ginza Sony Park—to create a creative park in the heart of Ginza and to connect people with one another, and people with the city—deeply resonated with the message of “connection” that SHUN SUDO has continuously expressed through his Button Flower motif.
What he chose to depict there was Ginza itself—a city that has long attracted people, both past and present. Having been familiar with this area since childhood, SUDO incorporated into the work the sounds and flowers that he had always associated with the image of the city, rendering them dynamically and vibrantly as symbols of hope for the future. Furthermore, during the construction period leading up to the grand opening of Ginza Sony Park in 2022, this work stood out as an artwork on the temporary construction fencing, adding color and vitality to the streets of Ginza.
We believe that the current exhibition, ART IN THE PARK: SHUN SUDO “HANA-MI”, will likewise delight people passing through the city, while contributing to the sharing of Japanese culture and the creation of a bright and hopeful future.
